Texas A&M Collegiate Summer Dance Intensive is designed to provide serious dancers with the opportunity to prepare for dance at the collegiate and pre-professional level, as well as gain insight into campus life and the Dance Science Program at Texas A&M University. Participants must be ages 12-20 and have a minimum of four years of dance experience. Age is determined by the date that registration opens. Students will be staying in university dormitories, walking our vast campus, and working closely with dance faculty. Each day will include various classes in Ballet, Modern, and Wellness (Yoga, Pilates, etc.) as well as Improvisation and Choreography as taught by TAMU dance faculty: Carisa Armstrong, Christine Bergeron, Diane Cahill-Bedford, Andrea Alvarez, and Alex Pooley-Detwiler, and other professional guests. For students looking to enter TAMU in Fall 2022 (Class of 2026) an audition will also be available during the intensive at no additional cost.  Please click here for the audition application to be completed and sent in prior to the intensive. Additionally, the students will participate in evening activities to enhance their preparation for dancing in college and beyond as well as explore our campus.

We seek to improve the technique, performance quality, anatomical awareness, and strength of dancers who wish to pursue dance at the collegiate level and beyond. There will be an informal performance on the last day of the intensive to which parents are invited.* No audition is required for attendance in the intensive, however, students must have a minimum of 4 years of dance training (more instructions in forms area below). Payment includes 7 days full of classes, a final performance*, housing, meals, a t-shirt, and a lanyard.  All fees will be due when registration ends (May 1st). The Collegiate Summer Dance Intensive (June 20-26, 2021) will be hosted in Texas A&M University Dance Program’s facilities in the Physical Education and Activity Programs building on the TAMU campus.

Facilities include:

  • Yoga studio with yoga wall
  • Pilates studio
  • 4 spacious dance studios
  • Informal performance space

*Due to restrictions in place because of COVID-19, a final performance will not occur during the 2021 Summer Intensive. Additional dance wellness, nutrition, choreography, and dance science based classes will be incorporated for the dancers, in addition to the pilates, yoga, and technique classes already offered. We are planning to schedule some special courses to help dancers learn the best ways to prepare themselves for auditions, including sessions on dance photography and how to write a resume.

Cost and Fees

$990 includes tuition, housing, and a meal plan

The first payment is a non-refundable $150 deposit due beginning April 1, 2021. The second payment of the remaining  $640 will be due no later than May 10, 2021. The student’s registration and place in the intensive are not final until this payment has been made.

Optional Technique Assessment: $50 (Register early – only 20 Assessment spots available!)

Registration Deadline: May 10, 2021.

Students will eat their meals on campus at various restaurants and/or be served a boxed lunch.  All students are required to stay on campus in dorms to get the full Aggie experience. Students will be housed in a residence hall on campus in either double or single occupancy rooms. Students will need to bring their own linens for their stay during the camp. A staff of counselors will supervise the students during their stay, and these counselors are accountable for all students daily. Students are required to attend all classes by walking as a group with the counselors from dorms/meals to classes each day.  Students will eat at on-campus dining facilities and be served a boxed lunch at the dance studios. Counselors will be made up of undergraduate dance program students who have gone through a background check through Texas A&M University as well as Child Protection Training.

Individual Assessment Program

As part of the collegiate dance intensive, we will be offering the opportunity to receive an individualized assessment of your student’s technical ability. Through the course of the 7-day intensive, the student will be evaluated by the faculty in all technique classes and rehearsals to assess her/his strengths and areas for improvement with attention to strength, flexibility, musicality, and alignment. Students will be required to wear an assigned number during classes and rehearsals so faculty may clearly identify and assess them. After the completion of the intensive, the student’s written assessment will be mailed to their permanent address. The fee for this individualized assessment is $50.00. Register early as we only have 20 assessment spots available. Assessment fees are NON-REFUNDABLE.
