Teacher Certification Options
The Department of Health and Kinesiology and the TAMU Dance Program offer two options for students interested in obtaining a K-12 certification.
Students interested in pursuing their teaching certification in dance should enroll in the B.S. in Kinesiology: Dance Science and use their 18 hours of electives towards the required education courses. To gain certification, students will need to take an additional 6 hours of student teaching in addition to the 120 degree.
The Department of Health and Kinesiology offers a 36-hour Masters in Sport Pedagogy. Through this degree, students can elect to take courses that will prepare them for the teacher certification exam with the State of Texas. Depending on the students undergraduate load, student may be able to dual enroll in the master’s program while finishing up their undergraduate degree in dance science. The benefit of this teacher certification option is students will not only be able to sit for the K-12 certification exam but will also graduate with the ability to teach at the university level.
